Sophie Scholl's involvement in the White Rose:
After seeing the mass deportation of jews, Hans and Sophie Scholl decided to take action by founding an organization called the White Rose. They started by buying a typewriter and writing the first leaflet. It said “Nothing is so unworthy of a nation as allowing itself to be governed without opposition by a clique that has yielded to base instinct…Western civilization must defend itself against fascism and offer passive resistance, before the nation’s last young man has given his blood on some battlefield.” The members of the organization worked all the time, creating thousands of leaflets that were similar to the first, they were mailed from undetectable locations so that the nazis couldn't track them. Soon Hitler became the chancellor of Germany, many germans didn't like this change of power. Shortly after the White Rose released their second leaflet it stated “Since the conquest of Poland 300,000 Jews have been murdered, a crime against human dignity…Germans encourage fascist criminals if no chord within them cries out at the sight of such deeds. An end in terror is preferable to terror without end.”Hitler made a new law that Jews weren't considered citizens of Germany. This law made the members of the White Rose infuriated, they let out a third leaflet, it demanded “Sabotage in armament plants, newspapers, public ceremonies, and of the National Socialist Party…Convince the lower classes of the senselessness of continuing the war; where we face spiritual enslavement at the hands of National Socialists.” Each leaflet was more harsh and critical of Hitler and the Nazis than the last. Someone saw Sophie and Hans with the leaflets and reported them, putting an end to the organization. Even though the organization was put to an end, Sophie's face became a national symbol for the anti Nazis.
